BL Predicts: Word-of-mouth will decide the fate of Sunny Singh and Maanvi Gagroo's Ujda Chaman at the box office

After constantly changing its release to avoid clash and comparison with Ayushmann Khurrana's Bala, Sunny Singh and Maanvi Gagroo's Ujda Chaman is hitting the screens this Friday at the ticket windows. While the buzz around the comedy-drama was quite average, it gained publicity when the audience drew the comparisons between Ujda Chaman and the Ayushmann starrer due to same core idea and treatment to the film. In fact, there was a legal tussle between the two films as the director of the Sunny Singh starrer filed a petition citing copyright infringement with the Supreme Court to stall the release of Ayushmann Khurrana's Bala.

Now keeping all the controversies aside, if we look at Ujda Chaman, it has a big advantage of having a solo release at the box office. But the thing is that Sunny Singh doesn't have a huge fan following and the fate of the film is completely dependent on its content and word-of-mouth among the audience. As per our predictions, we are expecting the film to open between Rs 1 to 1.50 crore on its first day and the scenario will only turnaround if the positive feedback from the audience comes in from the morning shows. It will also face competition with holdover releases like Housefull 4, Saand Ki Aankh and Made In China, which will again be a big obstacle for the film.

So, if Ujda Chaman needs to be a box office winner, it has to strike a chord with the cine-goers with its content. Produced under the banner of Panorama Studios, it is the official remake of 2017 Kannada movie Ondu Motteya Kathe.
