Happy Birthday, Ryan Gosling: 5 fun facts about the actor that will surprise you

It's Ryan Gosling's birthday today. The actor clocks 39 years and we cannot be more grateful to the universe for letting one of the most handsome men in the world to be born in this era. And to celebrate his special day, we have dug up some fun and interesting trivia about the La La Land star for y'all. Be ready for some surprises. Here we go...

1 In January 1993, Ryan Gosling beat 17,000 people (Yep, that many! Can you believe it?) for a place in The All-New Mickey Mouse Club (1989). In an interview with GQ, it was revealed that Ryan was the only one from the entire cast of Mickey Mouse Club who didn't reside in the same complex as the others. Instead, the actor and his family lived in a trailer park. Whatever the little lad earned from his stint on the show was the family's only source of income.

2 Ryan Gosling was popularly known as 'Trouble' in his school days. In fact, he was even taken out of elementary school as a child because of constant abuse from other students. He was later homeschooled by his mother.

3 In 1992, Ryan Gosling participated in a talent show for television where he was the only boy among a group full of girl dancers.

4 For his character in La La Land, Ryan played the piano for real in all his scenes involving the instrument. To prepare for his role, Ryan begun learning to play the piano months before shooting commenced.

5 Ryan happens to be one of only three male actors born in 1980 or after Eddie Redmayne and Jonah Hill being the other two to have received more than one Academy Award nomination for acting. Ryan was nominated for Half Nelson (2006) and La La Land (2016), Jonah Hill for Moneyball (2011) and The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) and Eddie Redmayne for The Theory of Everything (2014), which he went on to win and The Danish Girl (2015).
