2019 Recap: From Hardik Pandya's 'Karke Aaya' comment to Anu Malik’s to and fro in Indian Idol, the year gave us many WTF moments

We are just a few days away from the new year. The year has been quite high on controversies, especially on the TV front. There were many instances that left us going "WTF". And if you are an ardent reader of our WTF Wednesday section, you'd be well aware of many such upheavals in the entertainment world. So, we thought that with the year is coming to an end, let's revisit some of the nastiest controversies that were the highlights of the year right from the small screens to the big one.

Hardik Pandya's Koffee

The year started with cricketer Hardik Pandya making headlines for his comment on Karan Johar's chat show, Koffee With Karan. Pandya was slammed for his misogynistic comments on the show. "Aaj main karke aaya," was one of the statements made by Pandya on the show, which didn't go down well with a certain section of the society. Pandya along with KL Rahul were also banned by BCCI for a short while.

Digs at Hina Khan

Hina Khan walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival to unveil the poster of her film, Lines. However, a reputed journalist took a dig at Khan through an Instagram post. The journalist posted a picture of Khan, and wrote, "Cannes is turning into Chandivali Studios". Clearly, the comment was uncalled for and we rolled our eyes so hard that they still hurt. Positively, the TV industry stood for Khan.

Anu Malik's to and fro in Indian Idol 11

Anu Malik was one of the most infamous names to be dragged in the #MeToo movement. He was asked to step down as a judge from the singing reality show, Indian Idol 10. However, a year later, he was brought back on the show, only for him to "quit" in the middle of season 11, following ubiquitous uproar over his inclusion. We are wondering if the channel and the high officials did think once before making decisions hastily.

Niti Taylor's wedding rumours

You ask us why we don't trust actors? Well, Niti Taylor was a prime example this year. When rumours of her engagement and wedding started floating, journalists dialed Taylor to confirm the same. Calling them a silly rumour, Niti denied the speculations, only to exchanges rings and have a Mehendi ceremony the very next week. Amidst all of this, we wonder what really happened.

Sandeep Vanga's disgraceful comment

Kabir Singh mired down last year due to a portion of society not liking the messaging of the movie. We are not getting into that discussion whether the movie was morally and ethically correct or not, but what really irked us was when film's director Sandeep Vanga while defending his movie called a renowned journalist "fat" during an interview. The comments were distasteful and disgraceful.

Kangana Ranaut slamming journalist

During the promotions of her movie Judgementall Hai Kya? Kangana Ranaut got into one of the nastiest brawls of the year that occurred in public. We don't know who was speaking the truth during that press conference but the entire episode was one of the nastiest things to have happened in the year. Plus it did seem uncalled. I mean, if you don't wish to answer a journalist, simply deny!

Vivek Oberoi's meme on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Trust me, one of the funniest, yet scandalizing things to have happened this year was Vivek Oberoi sharing a meme that featured his ex-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The meme took a dig at Aishwarya's dating history and Vivek sharing it made it scandalous. It was obviously repugnant of Oberoi to share it, it also made us laugh thinking what was the actor high on while sharing it? He obviously deleted it soon, but in our Wall of WTFame, this surely left an impression.
