Ananya Panday on learning from dad Chunky Panday's success and failure: I've seen it with my own eyes
Ananya Panday has had quite an eventful beginning to her Bollywood innings. While her first film, Student of the Year 2 neither could set the box-office alight nor garner her performance the attention that a debutante craves, her sophomore outing, Pati Patni Aur Woh set right whatever the lass needed, not only blazing its way to box-office glory, but also converting Ananya Panday's harshest critics into newfound admirers with a performance far-removed from SOTY 2 and matured beyond her years. Within a span of a few months, Ananya had gone from just another star-kid born with a silver spoon to a star-kid who merits a shot on the pedigree of her acting skills.
It was not surprising then that when BollywoodLife sat down for an exclusive interview with Ananya Panday, the conversation inevitably veered toward how she dealt with the transition phase between Student of the Year 2 and Pati Patni Aur Woh and how the latter could really help her turn over a new leaf in her career.
Of course, on the subject of transition phases and highs and lows, it was but obvious to mention her father, Chunky Panday, whose career had got off to a great start in the Hindi film industry courtesy his first five films within merely two years Aag Hi Aag, Tezaab, Gunahon Ka Faisla, Paap Ki Duniya, Khatron Ke Khiladi emerging commercially successful, proceeded by consistent hits like Ghar Ka Chiraag, Nakabandi, Aankhen (one of the biggest blockbusters in the history of Indian cinema) and Lootere till 1993. Post that though, Chunky's career saw a steep decline and his Bollywood journey never really recovered, at least not as a lead or supporting hero.
With such a vast spectrum of success and failure to learn from, we simply had to ask Ananya if she's had the sort of discussion with her father to help her make better choices in the industry and avoid repeating certain follies, particularly given the fickle nature of the beast known as Bollywood. On her part, the starlet didn't shy away from accepting that she's no doubt learned a lot from her father's experiences albeit more through observation rather than conversation.
"He doesn't need to tell me about it (sudden dips between success and failure in Bollywood) as I've seen it with my own eyes. He doesn't need to tell me anything because I've seen it happening upfront. The best thing I think about my dad though is that he's never changed as a person. Whatever be his success or failures, he's stayed the same positive, kind, happy person that he is. And he keeps telling me that it's harder to handle success that it is to handle failure, and I think that's one of the best pieces of advice that he's given me."
