Flimy Friday: Birthday boy Salman Khan was the only actor in the 90s to deliver the 3 highest grossers in a single year

Sabki Aan Sabki Shaan, (not) sabke Bhaijaan's birthday today. We are talking about none other than Salman Khan. The Dabangg actor turns 54 years young today and we cannot be more happy for the eternal bachelorhood that Salman has embraced. Though we would love to see him as a groom. When Salman made his debut with Maine Pyar Kiya he became a household name as Prem. Who thought one of the poster boys of the 80s would go on to become heartthrob and rule the roost in the 90s? Salman Khan turned the tides despite having stiff competition in Shah Rukh Khan, Sunny Deol, Govinda and Aamir Khan.

Here are the films that made him the number one star of the 90s.

1991 - Sanam Bewafa, Saajan

Sanam Bewafa saw Salman Khan as Salman to Chandni's Rukhsar. The love story was a hit and earned Rs. 6 crores back in the day which made it a huge hit. His next hit was Saajan that also starred Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit. Salman won hearts as carefree-turned-responsible Akash in the film. It was one of the biggest hits of the year with a box office of Rs. 10 crores at that time. It beat Amitabh Bachchan's Hum and Sunny Deol's Narasimha. Both, Big B and Sunny were huge stars back then.

1994 - Hum Aapke Hai Koun...?

One of the most loved films of Salman Khan has to be HAHK. Hum Aapke Hai Koun was a huge blockbuster back then and earned a whopping Rs. 73.5 crores. Tell you what, it could easily beat Baahubali's collections if you take inflation into account. Also, Prem became synonyms with Salman Khan. This family entertainer by Rajshri Productions changed the facet of movie watching. Theatres went into renovations, families made their way to the theatres to watch Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit's chemistry in the film. Not only that, Hum Aapke Hai Koun beat 1994's Raja Babu which starred Govinda, Akshay Kumar's Mohra and Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Ajay Devgn's Vijaypath and Dilwale.

1999 - Hum Saath Saath Hain, Biwi No. 1, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

Salman Khan delivered three BLOCKBUSTERS is 1999. We are talking about family drama Hum Saath Saath Hain, comedy-drama Biwi No. 1 and tragic love story, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Out of the three, HSSH grabbed the top spot with the box office collection of Rs. 40 crore back in the day followed by Biwi No. 1 which made a business of Rs. 26 crores and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam which earned Rs. 25 crores. Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's chemistry and their budding romance were the film's highlights. These three films beat the likes of Sarfarosh that starred Aamir Khan in the lead, Haseena Maan Jayegi that featured Govinda, Baadshah of Shah Rukh Khan, Sunny Deol's Arjun Pandit, Sanjay Dutt's Vaastav and Ajay Devgn's Kachche Dhaage.

Apart from that, to his credit are the following blockbusters:

1990 - Baaghi: A Rebel for Love (Rs. 40 crores)

1995 - Karan Arjun - BLOCKBUSTER - (Rs. 28 crores)

1997 - Judwaa - SUPERHIT - (Rs. 14 crores)

1998 - Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya (Rs. 19 crores), Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai (Rs. 11.5 crores), Bandhan (Rs. 12.5 crores)

Salman Khan is the only actor after Amitabh Bachchan to give three highest grossers in a single year. Amitabh Bachchan gave three hits in Muqaddar Ka Sikander, Trishul and Don in 1978.

Well, since then, Salman Khan's stardom has just increased and the actor has given many hits and many memorable characters for the audience.

Here's wishing the eternal bachelor a very happy birthday.
