Jersey: Shahid Kapoor finds a mentor in dad Pankaj Kapoor
Nani's Jersey is going to be the next South film that is being remade in Bollywood and the anticipation is quite high. While TV actress Mrunal Thakur plays Shahid Kapoor's love interest in the Gowtam Tinnanauri's Hindi remake, there is a new addition to the sports drama. Mrunal plays an anchor to Shahid's character while he struggles to make a mark for himself in Team India at an age when cricketers think of retiring. Furthermore, as per a report in Mirror, the film is all set to mark a reunion for Shahid and his father Pankaj Kapur. The veteran actor plays a pivotal role as a mentor to Shahid's character in the movie.
The actor-filmmaker Pankaj admitted to the daily that he is excited to be a part of the film. In a statement to the daily he said, "Jersey is a strong story-driven by emotions. Working with Shahid has always been interesting. I admire his ability to portray emotions beautifully." The last time Pankaj and Shahid were seen on the screens in the 2015 romcom Shaandaar. In the debacle, Pankaj had played Alia Bhatt's father. Earlier to this, the father-son duo was seen in Pankaj's 2011 directorial, Mausam, in which Shahid played an Air Force pilot with Sonam Kapoor as the leading lady.
Meanwhile, film director Tinnanauri, is thrilled to work with the 65-year-old actor. "Pankaj sir is such a great actor. We have all grown up watching his work. To be able to direct him is a great honour and I know that he fits the role of a mentor perfectly," the director added to the daily.
Coming back to the movie, Shahid, plays a 30-something cricketer in the film and his Instagram has several videos of him prepping for the character for almost two months. The shooting will start from the next week in Chandigarh.
