'83: Here's how Kapil Dev reacted when the makers of the film asked for his permission

Ranveer Singh starrer 83 is all set to release on April 10 this year. The movie is based on the victory of the Indian cricket team in the Cricket World Cup 1983 lead by the all-rounder Kapil Dev. The promotions of the film have begun and the first poster of the film was also launched recently and fans are eager to re-live the 1983 winning moment once again. In a recent interaction with media in Chennai, Kapil Dev revealed his first reaction when the makers had asked for his permission to make a film on the 1983 Cricket World Cup win. He said, " My first reaction was like no, we didn't want to do that as we felt we were young enough still. The story should be about what happened 50-100 years back but in the end, every one of us, including me, said, yes okay, fine, if they want to make a movie on us, let them go ahead."

He also thanked the director Kabir Khan and the team of 83 for the film. He shared, "As a cricketer, I just want to say thank you very much to Kabir and his team. We never thought that they would go to such lengths to research what went behind the scenes during the 1983 World Cup. I have no words to explain my happiness." Recently, the makers had revealed the first looks of the whole team of 83. Apart from Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, the film also stars Tahir Raj Bhasin as Sunil Gavaskar, Jiiva as K. Srikkanth, Saqib Saleem as Mohinder Amarnath, Jatin Sarna as Yashpal Sharma, Chirag Patil as Sandeep Patil, Dinker Sharma as Kirti Azad and Nishant Dahiya as Roger Binny, Harrdy Sandhu as Madan Lal, Sahil Khattar as Syed Kirmani, Ammy Virk as Balwinder Singh Sandhu and Addinath M Kothare as Dilip Vengsarkar, Dhairya Karwa as Ravi Shashtri and R Badree as Sunil Valson from 83.

 

 

The film also stars Deepika Padukone as Romi Dev.
