#JNUAttack : #BoycottChhapaak trends as Deepika Padukone visits JNU students and faculties to extend solidarity

Deepika Padukone who is all set for the release of her film Chhapaak on January 10, celebrated her 34th birthday in Lucknow with Laxmi Agarwal and her daughter at Sheroes Cafe, which is run by acid attack survivors. Ranveer Singh also was present with her but soon after that returned back while Deepika went ahead to Delhi for the promotions of her film. While she was in Delhi for promotions, she also visited JNU to support the students. She was on the JNU campus for about 10 minutes and the actress apparently left without saying anything. For the uninitiated, a mob of masked men recently entered the JNU campus and brutally attacked students and staff, leaving them badly injured. Many celebrities like Anurag Kashyap, Swara Bhasker, Sudhir Mishra, Vishal Bhardwaj, Rekha Bhardwaj, Anubhav Sinha, Dia Mirza, Rahul Dholakia, Ali Fazal, Neeraj Ghaywan, Reema Kagti, Hansal Mehta, Vikramaditya Motwane, Saurabh Shukla, Rajkumar Gupta, Zoya Akhtar, Taapsee Pannu and Richa Chadha, have voiced their concern over the attack on students.

The actress arrived at Sabarmati T-Point in the university where a public meeting was being held. The meeting had been organised by the JNU students' union and the teachers' association against the attack on students by masked men and women armed with lathis and iron rods on Sunday. However, Deepika Padukone did not address the crowd. She stood by as former JNUSU president, Kanhaiya Kumar raised slogans and left just as current President Aishe Ghosh, who too was injured in the attack, began to speak. Soon after her visit to JNU, social media was all filled with tweets regarding it. #BoycottChhapaak has been trending on Twitter as many have argued that Deepika would never have turned up at JNU had she not been in Delhi for Chhapaak promotions. Some even claimed that her appearance was a mere publicity stunt. Deepika has received a lot of backlash after her visit and people have been calling her "Anti-national", "Urban Naxal", "Pakistani". Some have even posted pictures of cancelled movie tickets of her film Chhapaak. Check out the tweets here:
