#JNUattack : #ISupportDeepika trends as fans come out in support of Deepika Padukone after her JNU visit
The country is facing some tough times of late. What with CAA and NRC protests, attacks, it wouldn't be wrong to say that the secularism in India, the democracy is at stake. There's a division that is heartbreaking. The country is in political turmoil as well. On Sunday night, these protests and support of CAA and NRC took an ugly turn when the students and faculty members were brutally attacked by masked assailants. Despite having a police patrol and security, many were left aghast with the horrifying deeds of the assailants. Celebrities like Taapsee Pannu, Richa Chadda, Dia Mirza, Anurag Kashyap, Anubhav Sinha, Zoya Akhtar, Vishal Bhardwaj, Onir, Reema Kagti among others attended the protests that were held in Bandra on Monday. Deepika Padukone who has been promoting her film, Chhapaak in the capital city dropped by to extend solidarity with the protestants at the Sabarmati T-point on the campus.
Deepika did not address the crowd but came out in support and spoke to some of the protestants, lauding them for their efforts. She was there when the JNUSU president, Kanhaiya Kumar raised slogans against the extremists, however, for not a long time. She left as the injured Aishe Ghosh took over Kanhaiya Kumar. Now, there is a section of people who have been trending #boycottchhapaak post her visit. They have been lashing out at the actress for supporting the "JNU goons". So much so that they canceled the booked tickets of Chhapaak and began a hashtag trend of the same.
However, there are certain sections of people who are not blinded by the one-sided story and have taken Deepika's pov as well. There have been times when Deepika has been threatened by a group of people for doing a historical drama, she has always been on the knife's edge, given the fact that she is a celebrity. She has been asked to give opinions on matters that she may not be fully aware of and shamed when she refused to comment. Bear this, that those who trend #ShameonBollywood do come under this as well. When Taapsee, Richa, Dia, Zoya, Anurag, and others who came out in support are not wrong, what did Deepika do to deserve such hatred?
Here are the tweets of the Twitter users that have come out in support in Deepika and are trending #ISupportDeepika:

To be clear, those who are calling for boycotting Deepika are enraged because she stood by the JNU students & staff who were criminally assaulted by masked men and women carrying Iron rods and acid.
They are angry she didn't stand with the acid throwers.

Today I'm a bigger fan of her when she showed solidarity with JNU Students. Despite knowing the outcome of her upcoming movie #Chhapaak she stood against the Fascism.

Coming back to Chhapaak, the actress is very well aware of the fact that there will be repercussions after her visit to JNU. Still, she went without much thinking about her thin chances she will be taking for such an important film.
Opinions can be wrong, however, taking a stand against one's opinion is NOT wrong.
