Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior Day 1 box office collection: Ajay Devgn's 100th film off to a great start

Ajay Devgn's 100th film Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior released yesterday. The big budget historical documents the bravery of Tanhaji Malusare, the brave Subhedaar of Shivaji Maharaj who gave up his life to capture the strategic Kondana Fort. His valour thwarted the Mughal invasion of the Deccan Plateau. The film released alongside the Deepika Padukone led Chhapaak. And it is also one of the first big films to release in 2020. The film has got 3880 screens across the nation including 2D and 3D formats.

According to the early estimates, the movie has went on to collect Rs 16 crores on the first day of it's release. Ths historical drama did get in more people in the theatres however as expected it couldn't do the business.

Coming to the film, Saif Ali Khan plays the ruthless and somewhat sadistic Uday Bhan Rathore, while Kajol plays Tanhaji's wife. Sharad Kelkar is seen as Shivaji Maharaj in the Om Raut's directorial.

The film received great response by the critics. BollywoodLife's critic gave the film a four-star our of five. "Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior does full justice to the emotion that Tanaji Malusare invoked in us when we read about him. Ajay Devgn brings forth the loyalty, zeal, courage and passion in his performance. Saif Ali Khan plays to the gallery as the ruthless and somewhat sadistic Uday Bhan Rathore. Kajol illuminates the screen with her presence while Sharad Kelkar is majestic as Shivaji Maharaj. Om Raut and Prakash Kapadia have written some rousing dialogues for the film. Another star of the film is cinematographer Keiko Nakahara. The battle happens at night and it is shown beautifully on screen. Sandeep Shirodkar does a great job with the BGM. The film is over two hours but moves at a relentless pace. Dharmendra Sharma has edited it well. Maay Bhavani and Ghamand Kar songs lift up the song as does the use of Ra Ra Ra Ra in the backdrop. The film is technically first rate with a very massy vibe. A complete winner," a part of the review read.
