With Rs 150 crore plus collections, Rajinikanth's Darbar grabs fifth spot at the worldwide box office in its first weekend

Megastar Rajinikanth has once again shown his power at the box office with his latest release Darbar. The action entertainer, which released on January 9 (Thursday) collected around Rs 150.30 crore in its extended opening weekend of four days at the worldwide box office. With this humongous business, it has entered the list of top 5 worldwide opening weekend grossers from 9th to 12 January. It grabbed the fifth spot after 1917, Star Wars Rise Of Skywalker, Jumanji: The Next Level and Frozen 2.

In Darbar, Rajinikanth plays the character of a cop. During the trailer launch of the film, the actor had said, "Actually, I don't like to act as a cop because it is related with duty and all the serious aspects. I love to play happy-go-lucky and entertaining characters. In a cop film, you have to be very serious since he goes after criminals, so I used to avoid it. But ('Darbar' director) Murugadoss came to me with a very good subject. It is not a routine cop character. He (Murugadoss) has extracted very different kind of work from me and when you see the film, you will realise it."

Rajinikanth, who has featured in 160 films in a 45-year career added: "I also feel that reacting to a situation or your co-actors' dialogues is what acting is about. Some actors are natural, and some are spontaneous. I don't see any change in my acting when I look back at my career," he added. Directed by AR Murugadoss, the film also stars Suniel Shetty, Nayanthara and Prateik Babbar in key roles. So, have you watched the film? Tweet to us @bollywood_life.
