Coronavirus pandemic: Sahil Khan made to apologise by society members after creating false alarm about COVID-19 in his Goregaon building

Coronavirus has been the major concern for the world now. The deadly virus has been spreading like a wildfire in the whole world and even in India, the cases have grown. The Government has asked people to stay indoors and schools, colleges, offices, malls, theatres, gyms have been shut down. The shoots of films, television shows have all been stopped. Celebrities have been sharing videos on how one should keep themselves safe and clean in this situation. They have also been sharing how one should enjoy this self-quarantine and social distancing and spend time for themselves and for their families. Yesterday, many celebrities supported the Janta Curfew and also stood up in their balconies in the evening to support the nation and appreciate the essential service providers who are working and fighting against Coronavirus amid the lockdown. Sahil Khan who is known for his role in the film Style recently shared on his social media account that two of his neighbours have been tested positive for COVID-19.

He stays at Imperial Heights in Goregaon and had shared this information without any proofs or verified information. This society is also a home of many television celebrities and such false information spread panic in society. On Saturday, the actor posted a video on Instagram in which he stated that two residents of the building, a 72-year-old and an 18-year-old had been inflicted with the virus. As soon as word spread, the residents called for an urgent meeting with Sahil Khan and gave him an earful for spreading baseless information. The actor then deleted the video, instead posting another that clarified that he had been misinformed. One of the residents, Raman Handa who is an actor-astrologer said, "We were taken by utter shock [by his video]. We don't know what prompted him to spread wrong information." The residents took a stand against him and told him that his action would be reported to the local civic officials. Ghajini actor Pradeep Rawat who stays in the same society said, "It was only then that he tendered a written apology to the society and the local municipal ward office. Perhaps, he did it to gain mileage. He apologised, so we did not pursue the matter."

In an interview with Mid-day, Sahil Khan said, "I was worried as my ailing dad was recently discharged from the hospital. I had put up a post about taking precautions. It was a case of Chinese whispers; it was unverified. As soon as other residents asked me, I apologised and deleted the post."
