Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Gulabo Sitabo to have a digital release? – the director answers

Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana starrer, Gulabo Sitabo have had many changes as far as the release date is concerned. The makers had postponed, preponed and again postponed the release of the quirky comedy-drama film. The film was supposed to finally release on April 17 but owing to the Coronavirus pandemic situation that has resulted in lockdown in every country, it was pushed ahead indefinitely. And now, as per a report in Mumbai Mirror, the director Shoojit Sircar has said that he won't mind having a digital release for Gulabo Sitabo.

Yes, you read that right. The director who has collaborated with Amitabh Bachchan in Pink and Piku and who was collaborating with Ayushmann Khurrana after 8 years since Vicky Donor was looking forward to the release of his film. "As a filmmaker, I'd want to see my film open in the theatres, but the situation today is unlike anything anyone had ever experienced. So, I'm open to a digital release if need be, but we will take a decision after May 3," Shoojit opened up in an interview with Mumbai Mirror.

Also, did you know? Shoojit Sircar had made a film with Big B and Ayushmann called Shoebite? Yes, but due to certain circumstances, the film couldn't be released. When asked if the film could see the light of the day post-lockdown, the filmmaker said, "Now, that both the studios have come together, maybe it will. It's my most innocent film since I was just starting out and the mind was pure. Every time someone discusses Shoebite, Mr. Bachchan immediately calls me, as excited as a child. With him, the relationship is one of mutual trust. On the last day of a film's shoot, he looks at me with the unspoken query, 'So, where's the next script?' which prompts me to write something We'll definitely do something again together, he's always on my radar."

Given the lockdown which many think is likely to extend given the surge in the number of positive tested COVID-19 patients in the past few days.
