Digangana Suryavanshi feels the government needs to take unemployment in the entertainment industry as a ‘serious issue’ and step up its efforts [Exclusive]
Digangana Suryavanshi is dealing with the lockdown blues like the rest of us. She was busy in the shoot of two films when the lockdown was declared by the government. In a candid chat with BollywoodLife, she said, "I am in the middle of frustration and reality. At times, I feel when is this going to end while on other days I take it like a healing phase. I have mood swings. But the vibe of being on a set is something else." She has a couple of projects in her kitty. One of them is a period film of Bollywood while the other is Seeti Maar with Gopichand. "I have shot quite a bit for the Hindi period film. It is a project from a big banner but I cannot reveal more. Seeti Maar has been shot 50 per cent. It is a weird feeling. I have the scripts in my hand, I know what I have to perform, so the anticipation is huge. It gets difficult when you realise that the lockdown might be extended and at times, realize that you just resume work in a couple of days," she said.

During this lockdown, she has been entertaining viewers with her singing videos. She says, "I am a good singer since childhood. My parents love Hindi film music. I grew up listening to Kishore Kumar songs. I was heartbroken when I came to know, at the age of ten that he was no more. I am very sentimental about music." Her videos with her folks have been hits. "It is another level of self-entertainment when everyone is home," Digangana states.
The issue of unemployment is being felt by the entertainment industry as well. Daily wage workers and junior artistes have been badly affected. "See, we do have associations in our industry but we need a system in place. The government has to set up the system. Film industries are set up in certain states and the aid needed won't be a huge one. It only needs co-ordination between a certain section of people. It is sad that the government is not seeing this as a problem. There are technicians, comedians and artistes who do not know what to do right now. We have a huge number of daily wage workers so this lockdown does not make sense for them. The government needs to understand that all actors are not 'self-sufficient' as the rest. All of us have been through phases of uncertainty. They need to take it seriously. There are economic packages for all sectors. It has taken them 45 days to figure something out," she concludes.
