Dil To Pagal Hai: 9 reasons why we think the movie was nothing more than a Bollywood cliché, and all wrong

Don't hold a grudge if you are a fan of Dil To Pagal Hai, but even you would agree that Bollywood makes us a sucker for superficial romantic love stories that even a 10-year-old would agree are too good to be true. Dil To Pagal Hai, Yash Chopra's romantic saga, had everything that Yash Chopra movies stand for scenic views, songs, oozing romance, profound drama and heartfelt dialogues. Perfect couples are the perfect recipe to serve the audience's hearts. That's just the way people loved films back then.

But now, 23 years down the line, the more me and my sister watch and re-watch Dil To Pagal Hai, the more we find it to be a Bollywood clich . Here what makes us think 23 years after the film's release, that it was the audience, and not Pooja, was na ve. To put it in honest words: 'Audience Pagal Thi'.

1. Pooja was velli

We feel Pooja's (Madhuri Dixit) character was highly flawed. Come on, we never came across such an unambitious girl in our life. She stays with her late parents' family friends. And in case you didn't notice, we know nothing about Pooja's job. What does she do? Does she even earn? That brings us to the second point, which is

2. Ajay's parents were highly generous

So, Ajay's (Akshay Kumar) parents (Farida Jalal and Deven Verma) were very welcoming towards Pooja. Who does that? And apart from giving her shelter, were they providing for her, too? Really generous. That brings us to the third point

3. Where did Ajay's parents live?

Let's talk about Pooja's introduction scene. She is seen running around a rather acres of Greenland. And when she comes back to the house, on being asked, she says, "Main to yahin thi." Don't mind, but we want to know exactly how huge is the property of Ajay's parents?

4. The trip outside India in a day

So, Ajay, under the pretext of a meeting, takes Pooja for a trip, outside India. We want to know, where did he exactly take her and aisi kaunsi jagah hai India ke bahar, jahan ek din mein jaake aa sakte hai? (where is this place outside India where a person could take a round trip in day?)

5. Acceptance of proposal

Pooja had been harbouring dreams of a prince charming sweeping her off her feet since forever, so what makes her accept Ajay's proposal at the blink of an eye? Sure, she knows Ajay since childhood, but her reason for giving happiness to someone (like charity) was highly unfair and also an insult to Ajay's feelings.

6. Rahul was pretty careless

Making a play is not an easy feat. Yet, just after their last concert, Rahul aka Shah Rukh Khan announces that they would come back with a play in just three months. Further, when probed by his friends, he didn't have an answer as to who Maya is. But what we are shocked about is that he still manages to get sponsors and write songs, dialogues and everything within those three months. Guess Rahul had a time machine with him.

7. Rahul's luck

So, with Nisha (Karisma Kapoor) in the hospital, Rahul is left without a lead dancer. But his luck is so strong that he manages to come across Pooja the very same day (assuming, we are correct). Luck by chance? But, if he could hear Pooja across studios, how come he never met her before?

8. Nisha was underrated

Honestly, Nisha was the only practical and believable character in the whole movie. She was upfront, whether it was her jealousy towards Pooja or her love for Rahul, she never hid her feelings. She also understood in the end when Rahul did not reciprocate her feelings.

9. Wrong couples

Love Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan's chemistry in the film all you want, but they were just not right for one another. Pooja was way too dreamy (like Maya) and Rahul was way too cocky even if charming. We feel Ajay was apt for Pooja while Nisha was apt for Rahul. Why? Because Ajay understood Pooja and Nisha understood Rahul like no other.
