#BLBestOf6: Bollywood witnesses the WORST first half in 2020 with just 2 clean hits at the box office

Well, we all know that box office numbers play an important role in any actor, producer and director's life. As cine-goers and movie lovers, we love Bollywood films and are always excited about their businesses. But unfortunately, the first six months of 2020 have turned out to be one of the worst periods for Bollywood and there are two primary reasons for that. Firstly, there were no releases in the second quarter as the theatres were shut due to the pandemic situation and second, many films which released, failed to fulfill our expectations at the box office. It's sad to say that there are only two films, which has got the clean 'HIT' status at the box office.

We are talking about Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan and Kajol starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Aditya Roy Kapur, Disha Patani, Anil Kapoor and Kunal Kemmu's Malang. Talking about the former, which marked the directorial debut of Om Raut, emerged as one of the biggest Bollywood grossers by earning over Rs 280 crore at the domestic market. On the other hand, Mohit Suri's thriller collected around Rs 60 crore and due to its moderate cost, it became a box office success. Tiger Shroff's Baaghi 3, which earned around Rs 100 crore and turned out to be an average grosser, could have been a hit as it faced the loss of Rs 20-30 crore as the theatres got closed when the film entered its second week.

There were many average grossers and many of them fall short of our expectations, which include Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan (Rs 62.50 crore), Thappad (Rs 32 crore), Jawaani Jaaneman (Rs 29 crore) and Bhoot: Part One- The Haunted Ship (Rs 32.50 crore). Talking about box office duds, we have films of big stars like Deepika Padukone's Chhapaak (Rs 34 crore), Varun Dhawan-Shraddha Kapoor's Street Dancer 3D (Rs 75 crore), Kangana Ranaut's Panga (Rs 28 crore) and Kartik Aaryan-Sara Ali Khan's Love Aaj Kal (Rs 37 crore). Irrfan Khan's last film Angrezi Medium, which earned around Rs 12 crore in its first weekend, earned a flop status as the government ordered the shutdown of cinema halls during this period.

Talking about the future, we have many biggies like Sooryavanshi, '83, Radhe: Your Most Wanted and many others, which are ready to hit the screens. Well, we hope the situation soon becomes normal and we see the cash registers ringing.
