Raksha Bandhan: Akshay Kumar announces his 'quickest' project with Aanand L Rai, releases first poster

On the auspicious occasion of Rakshabandhan, the Khiladi of Bollywood Akshay Kumar has announced his new project titled Raksha Bandhan, which will be directed by Raanjhanaa and Zero helmer Aanand L Rai. The film will release on November 5, 2021. The actor shared the news and said it is the quickest film, he has signed in his career with a tweet, which reads, "A story that touches your heart so deeply & so instantly,it's the quickest I've signed a film in my career.Dedicating this film,#RakshaBandhan to my sister,Alka & to the most special bond in the world...that of a brother and sister.Thank you @aanandlrai ,this one is very special."

Talking about the new venture, Aanand L Rai said in an official statement, "Akshay is such a talented actor and I'm really excited to collaborate with him once again for Rakshabandhan. The film is a special tale which celebrates relationships in the most beautiful way." On the other hand, Akshay Kumar said, "Hardly ever in life does one come across a story that touches your heart so deeply and so instantly! It will make you laugh and it will make you cry. And it will make us realise how blessed are those who have sisters. It makes me happiest that my sister Alka is presenting and producing this film along with ace director Aanand L Rai. Can't thank him enough for bringing me one of the most special films of my life."

The film is written by Himanshu Sharma and produced by Colour Yellow Productions in association with Cape Of Good Films. Raksha Bandhan will be the second collaboration between Akshay Kumar and Aanand L Rai after Atrangi Re, which also stars Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush in key roles. The music of Atrangi Re will be composed by Academy Award winner AR Rahman while the lyrics will penned by Irshad Kamil. While the film is scheduled to release during the Valentine's Day weekend of 2021, we might see a shift in date due to the pandemic crisis of coronavirus.
