Suriya's statement on NEET is contempt of Court, says high court judge

South actor Suriya had recently raised his voice against NEET after three students in Tamil Nadu committed suicide due to their fears over the controversial NEET exam. This comment of the actor has not gone well with the Madras High court. One of Madras high court judge on Monday wrote to chief justice AP Sahi and urged him to initiate contempt of court proceedings against actor Suriya over his recent remarks on the NEET exams. Suriya had written his views on Twitter. He had written, "The government should create equal opportunities for all. People who do not know the realities faced by poor students are framing education policies. The court that delivers justice through video conferencing due to corona scare orders, students to appear for exams without any fear. 'Student commits suicide out of fear of exam' becomes the day's topic of discussion in media. And some Chanakyas fiercely debate the spelling mistakes in the suicide notes of the students."

Madras High Court judge Justice SM Subramaniam has written a letter to Chief Justice of the Madras High Court requesting him to initiate contempt proceedings against the actor for his words on Supreme Court upholding the central government's decision to conduct the NEET during the pandemic. The copy circulated to the media said, "The Statement reveals that the Hon'ble Judges are afraid of their own life and rendering justice through video conferencing. While-so, they have no morale to pass orders directing the students to appear for NEET Exam without fear. The said statement in my considered opinion amounts to contempt of Court as the integrity and devotion of the Hon'ble Judges as well as the Judicial System of our Great Nation are not only undermined but criticised in a bad shape, wherein there is a threat for the public confidence on the Judiciary. Thus, the cine actor Mr.Surya has committed contempt, warranting contempt proceedings to uphold the Majesty of our Indian Judicial System."

Talking about Suriya, the actor might romance Andreah Jeremiah in Vetri Maaran's next Vaadivasal.
