Sushant Singh Rajput case: CMM orders remand applications to be conducted via video conference after Rhea Chakraborty gets mobbed by media

Sushant Singh Rajput's death case has a big question which is whether it was a homicide or a suicide. The case is being investigated by the CBI and NCB who has had a breakthrough from the alleged drugs peddling links that have been uncovered by the CBI. Rhea Chakraborty, who is the prime accused in the FIR filed by Sushant's father, KK Singh was interrogated for the last few days by the CBI and NCB. Rhea's brother, Showik has been booked and arrested by NCB in the alleged drug purchase and sale. Recently, the media had mobbed Rhea Chakraborty when she had been making her way to the guest house for interrogation by NCB. And now, as per the latest reports, CMM, that Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at Esplanade Court has ordered to conduct all the remand applications related to Sushant Singh Rajput's case via video-conferencing. This is with reference to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The order was issued on Sunday by CMM Tejali Dande saying, "With immediate effect, any accused related to the 'Sushant Singh Rajput case' remand will be carried through video-conferencing only," with a list of modalities to be followed being attached. Rhea's lawyer Satish Manshinde welcomed the decision after calling the media mobbing a horrendous act. As per the reports, one accused in Goa has been tested positive for COVID-19 and to reduce the possibilities of infecting any more individuals, the CMM office will conduct a video link and share with the concerned investigating agency. In case of visits, lawyers will be permitted two juniors.

The CMM has also said that all remand papers can be submitted either in person on via email. The investigating agencies will have to conduct COVID-19 tests of the accused to avoid hospital visits thereby saving time. The CMM office has also informed the Bombay High Court, Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, the NCB Zonal Director and other top officials of its decision. In the past, there have been a few occasions when video-conferencing has been taken up in certain important cases in view of the security concerns of the accused besides the hordes of media-persons who throng courts and public places to cover such high-profile cases.
