Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan's Coolie No 1 to release this Diwali on OTT? - here's what we know

Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan's much-awaited romantic-comedy Coolie No. 1 seems to have finally got a release date. It was earlier reported that the film will release on a popular OTT platform this Diwali. The film was supposed to release in the theatres on May 1, 2020, but due to the coronavirus outbreak, everything was shut down. Now, as per reports, the film will premiere on Diwali weekend, i.e. 13th November on Amazon Prime Video. Fans are too excited at the prospect of seeing the pair of Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan together on the big screen. Coolie No.1 is the modern version of the 90's blockbuster. The film has been mainly shot in Bangkok. This is Varun Dhawan's second film with his dad after Judwaa.

The makers have recreated one of the iconic tracks from Coolie No 1 for the remake, which is Mein Toh Raste Se Ja Raha Tha. It is composed by Tanishk Bagchi. Talking about the track, director David Dhawan said, "It is an important song for our film, and it has heart. But times have changed so I am going to picturise it very differently with Varun and Sara." Recalling about the original track, David said. "We found a place in Bangalore with lot of Bhel Puri stalls and had the lead pair (Govinda and Karisma) strolling through it, exploring 'Mumbai'. I thought it was the best way to capture the essence of the Maximum City back then."

Govinda had spoken about working with David Dhawan. He had said, "I do not think his son will ever do 17 films with him, because he is, after all, David Dhawan's son. He is educated. I never realized the meaning of doing 17 films with a director. It was Sanjay Dutt who told me to give work to a fellow Punjabi (David Dhawan). I used to give work to fellow Punjabis at that time. I liked David and did many hit films with him. I did not even treat my relatives so well as I treated him. Even with my brother, who is a director, I did not do 17 films."
