Tuesday Trivia: When Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol wasted two entire magazines for steamy bed scene in DDLJ

There's some kind of magic in the romance of Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) and Simran (Kajol) that continues to make everyone fall in love with them time and again. It's been 25 years since Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) released in 1995, and people still believe in the concept of true love, made immortal by Raj and Simran, that will come and find them some day.

Several decades have gone by but DDLJ remains the most cherished Indian love story of moviegoers. Girls are still looking for Raj in real life, hoping that he will come and fill their hearts with immense love, stretch his arms wide open and hide them into his leather jacket. Boys have also dreamt of having a partner like Simran, who will reciprocate their love and care without any demands or complaints. It made the romantic jodi of SRK and Kajol immortal in the Hindi cinema.

DDLJ didn't just instill love in everyone's heart, but it also taught people to fight for their love and never give up. Such has been the impression that is still etched in everyone's mind. Even director Aditya Chopra was unaware of what a masterpiece he has created. And as DDLJ completes 25 glorious years on October 20, we revisit the time when Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, who usually give their best shot in their first take, took several retakes while shooting their steamy bed scene.

Director Adi Chopra felt that this would be a steamy scene at the time of writing it. However, SRK and Kajol couldn't stop laughing. The entire time they were in splits and took several retakes to get the scene right. "There was a scene in DDLJ for which Shah Rukh and me went on for two entire magazines. It was that zipper scene, I would pull down the zipper and both of us cracked up, we just couldn't stop laughing," Kajol was quoted as saying in an old interview with Filmfare.

DDLJ marked the debut of writer-director Aditya Chopra, and the film went on to break a few records upon release, apart from redefining Bollywood romance. The Yash Raj Films (YRF) production is also fondly remembered for its songs composed by Jatin-Lalit.
