WTF Wednesday: Here’s why Mukesh Khanna’s tirade alleging vulgarity on The Kapil Sharma Show was totally unnecessary

Over the years, Kapil Sharma has proved himself as the middle-class Indian's favourite comedian. His jokes are rooted in our day-to-day life and do have a bit of innuendo. The portion is mostly as much as we use in our conversations when we want to break the monotony or indulge in giggle or chuckle. While critics might argue that his jokes are repetitive, there is no denying that Kapil Sharma mostly succeeds at what he's set out to do. Recently, veteran actor Mukesh Khanna launched an offensive against the comedian terming his show as vulgar. While his co-stars attended the show, fans did miss Mukesh Khanna who played the great Bheeshma Pitamah. The episode gained more prominence after Gajendra Chauhan and Mukesh Khanna indulged in a war of words.

Now, it was understandable if Mukesh Khanna did not wish to attend the show. He could have just said that Kapil Sharma's sense of comedy does not resonate with him. But he went on a full-on attack on the comedian for hurting sentiments of people and what not. The only result of this was people who did not catch up the episode on TV, saw it on YouTube to understand what exactly was so wrong?

Of late, the entertainment industry is reeling under a wave of negativity. And a few people seem to be the torchbearers of the movement. As an actor, Mukesh Khanna would know that everyone is playing characters, and is not God himself. And if his co-stars who have played holy characters on mythological shows have no issues with 'underwear' jokes, why is he so offended?

It is no secret that people feel that Indians take themselves too seriously. We cannot joke on a hundred things in this country. And Kapil Sharma knows it better than the rest. A hit show like The Kapil Sharma Show provides entertainment and employment to hundreds of people, and right now we need to boost our nation economically. This kind of behaviour to just stir radical elements is nothing short of mischief-mongering.
