Today is the D-day as three Bollywood films - Housefull 4, Saand Ki Aankh and Made In China have released at the box office and like the makers, even audience are expecting these ventures to be bonafide hits. Considering that the festival is all about coming together as a family and celebrating, makers plan to release their big-ticket films as they get good amount of screens and extended opening weekend, which further boosts the business. Though this year, the Diwali releases might not earn to the optimum level in its first three days due to Dhanteras and Laxmi Pujan, they will gather momentum on Monday and Tuesday during Bali Pratipada and Bhaidooj, where families generally go out watch movies and spend time together. The Diwali weekend plays an extremely crucial role for both star-studded films as well as content-driven films. From the past 5-6 years, it has been observed that maximum Diwali releases have entered the Rs 100 and Rs 200 crore club and the most of the business for the films has been registered during its opening weekend.

So, here's take a look at the top five films that made complete use of the extended Diwali weekend to rake in the moolah...

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo

Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor starrer Prem Ratan Dhan Payo was made on the whopping budget of Rs 100 crore and it covered investment in its opening weekend itself. The family drama took complete advantage of the Diwali period and raked in Rs 129.77 crore in its extended 4-day weekend. In its theatrical run, it raked in Rs 210 crore.

Happy New Year

Farah Khan's multi-starrer took a thunderous opening as collected Rs 108.86 crore in its extended weekend but soon after that negative-word-of-mouth affected its business.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Yash Chopra's Jab Tak Hai Jaan created a great amount of buzz prior to its release. Despite clashing with Ajay Devgn's Son Of Sardaar, SRK's Jab Tak Hai Jaan utilised its 6-day extended weekend and registered a decent collection of Rs 98 crore.

Ra.One

One of the most ambitious projects of Shah Rukh Khan, Ra.One collected a whopping Rs 91.10 in its 5-day extended weekend. While it received mixed reviews from the cine-goers, the technology used in the film was appreciated by the audience.

Golmaal Again

Despite clashing with Secret Superstar, Golmaal Again managed to rake in Rs 87.60 crore in just three days at the box office. Later, the film went to become Ajay Devgn's biggest hit.
