Karthi on Kaithi's blockbuster success: The story had a gripping screenplay, which compensated for everything

Despite clashing with Thalapathy Vijay and Nayanthara's Bigil, Karthi starrer Kaithi turned out to be a huge success at the ticket windows. Apart from the domestic market, it has also performed well in the international circuits. As per reputed trade expert Ramesh Bala, the film has collected Rs 20 crore in Tamil Nadu, Rs 5 crore Kerala, Rs 5 crore in Karnataka, Rs 6 crore in Andhra Pradesh/Telangana and Rs 50 lakhs in rest of India in 6 days. Made on the moderate budget of Rs 20 crore, it has raked in around Rs 7-10 crore at the overseas box office. The film had a limited release but due to fantastic reviews, it got more screens post Diwali at the box office. In fact, in the markets of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, it is now earning more than Bigil.

Kaatru Veliyidai star, who is basking the success of the film expressed his happiness and Indian Express, "The story had a gripping screenplay, which compensated for everything. Each one of us in the team worked so hard, and this is a combined effort. I miss being on the Kaithi sets. Also, when we were shooting, there used to be pin-drop silence. I wish every crew had the same discipline."

The actor also recalled when he learned Lorry for the film and quoted, "I found it quite challenging because I hadn't driven a lorry before. What I was given was an old rusted vehicle and I feel sorry for all lorry drivers because it's a risky job." The actor also said that it was not tough for him to get into the character of Dilli as he has a daughter at home. "Getting into the skin of Dilli wasn't tough because I have a daughter at home. Even, my father (Sivakumar) got convinced about the father-daughter relationship in the film, and had nice things to say about my role."

The actor also went on to say that he is equally spiritual like Dilli in real-life. "A lot of people who reached greater heights in life are believers be it Ilaiyaraaja sir, Rajinikanth sir or AR Rahman sir. Moreover, whenever I step out of my home, I make sure I apply holy ashes on the forehead. It is something that I have been doing since my childhood days. Even Mani (Ratnam) sir used to make fun of me saying, 'paaruya, pazham vandhuttan'."

He assured about Kaithi 2 and said, "Lokesh said he needs another 30 days of my call sheet to finish off the sequel. So, you can await an official word from us on the same in some time." So, are you excited for the sequel of this film? Tweet to us @bollywood_life.
