Thalaivi: Kangana Ranaut starrer in trouble as court grants Jayalalithaa’s niece, Deepa, permission to sue makers
When it's a Kangana Ranaut film, can controversy be far behind? Even if the actress isn't in the middle of the storm, her film, somehow, still finds itself in choppy waters. Now, her next release, Thalaivi the Jayalalithaa biopic has found itself in a legal hassle after the Madras High Court has permitted the niece of the deceased South cinema screen queen and erstwhile Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to file a civil lawsuit against the makers of the film as well as any other project in the pipeline that's based on Jayalalithaa.

Deepa had moved the Madras High Court in early November on the grounds that the makers had no legal right to produce a film on Jayalalithaa and that they'd done so without seeking her permission as the former politician and actress' legal chief. She added that such a film could affect her aunt's and subsequently, her family's privacy, alleging that monetary benefits are the makers sole purpose to produce it, and demanding that the entire script be submitted to her before the project goes ahead.
The court's permission means that Deepa can now not only sue Director AL Vijay and producer Vishnu Vardhan of Thalaivi, but also Gautham Menon who's planning a web series on Jayalalithaa, titled Queen, and starring Ramya Krishnan. The Kangana Ranaut film is being simultaneously made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi while the web series is exclusively Stay tuned to BollywoodLife for more scoops and updates.
