#1YearOfKedarnath : Sara Ali Khan continues to be Bollywood's next big thing one year after her debut
One year to the day Kedarnath had released in theatres across the country, brining with it a star-kid whose debut felt unlike that of any other star-kid in a long, long time purely because of the humongous buzz she had generated in the leadup to her debut feature hitting silver screens. And Sara Ali Khan not only lived up to such lofty expectations, but blew them straight out of the stratosphere, converting even the harshest critics of nepotism to her fans overnight. After ages, a heroine had emerged in Bollywood who was the perfect combination of old-world charm and grace mixed with modernday chutzpah and charisma. In fact, despite starring opposite Sushant Singh Rajput, it was Sara who walked away with all the accolades, with some even citing her as the decisive factor keeping the film afloat both on screen and at the box-office .
Close on the heels of Kedarnath, came Simmba, where Sara held her own before an ace performer like Ranveer Singh despite playing the quintessential heroine with limited screen time in a massy-hero-dominated vehicle something usually only seasoned actresses, and the really good ones at that, manage to accomplish in such masala entertainers. The facts were there for all to witness, the verdict was out on everybody's lips Sara Ali Khan wasn't only here to stay, she was here to rule Bollywood in years to come.
A year on, Sara continues to be Bollywood's next big thing even though she hasn't had another film release such has been the impact she's created. Her regular gym or airport spottings, any small news about her shooting on the sets of Coolie No. 1 with Varun Dhawan or Aaj Kal with Kartik Aaryan, or her interview with Barkha Dutt on We the Women have all managed to grab headlines, with the audience unable to get enough of her, waiting with bated breath for any small tid-bit about her. In a short span, the actress has garnered over 15 million followers on Instagram, easily beating several of her contemporaries in this avenue, too (and, yes, social-media following matters a lot in today's day and age). Even the paps seem to adore her with Sara always greeting them with a warm smile and her signature namaste pose.
Today being #1YearOfKedarnath, all we can say is that Sara Ali Khan has it in her hands to forge a path as one of Bollywood's biggest female stars. We are certainly rooting for her.
