2019 Recap: Gully Boy, Bala, Uri: The Surgical Strike – Bollywood movies of 2019 you can binge-watch
We're in 2020 but we still have a 2019 hangover. It is still fresh in our minds and one main reason is because of the kind of Bollywood films that released in 2019. It was a great year in terms of the rich content that many films had. So without wasting much time, let's take a look at the 10 films you can binge-watch. Mind you, these films are not related to box office collections.
Know what Vicky Kaushal's dad told him before the release of Uri
Uri: The Surgical Strike
2019 began with a bang with this film which released on January 11. Vicky Kaushal was excellent in this film which kept you hooked right from the word go.
Bala
This Ayushmann Khurrana starrer, about a young man dealing with premature balding, was full of sharp dialogues. And we still can't get over Ayushmann's mimicry of Bollywood stars in the film. Article 15
Another Ayushmann starrer. This one was about the caste discrimination that is still prevalent in our country. It was an uncomfortable watch but a good one indeed. Ayushmann was wonderful and so was Manoj Pahwa.
Chhichhore
Not many would've have expected this film so good when the trailer came. But it turned out to be a wonderful watch. The film was about a bunch of friends in their 40s who reunite 20 years after they passed out of college. It was high on nostalgia is worth watching again with your close buddies.
Gully Boy
Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy was about determination to fulfill your dreams. Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt were great, but we thank this film for giving us Siddhant Chaturvedi. He was absolutely brilliant. The Sky Is Pink
The Sky is Pink starring Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar, was a touching story about a couple spanning through 25 years.
Dream Girl
Ayushmann Khurrana plays a cross-gender actor whose female voice impersonation gets a lot of attention from others. It was a breezy watch which with a pertinent commentary on gender constructs in Indian society.
Sonchiriya
Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, this multi-starrer had some wonderful performances by Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar, Manoj Bajpayee and Ranveer Shorey. It was a gripping story about criminals which took on patriarchy.
Hamid
Starring Rasika Dugal, Hamid is a poignant drama set in Kashmir. Putting a child's innocence and curiosity at the forefront Hamid was heartbreakingly good.
Soni
Directed by Ivan Ayr., this film chronicles the life of police officer Soni (Ohlyan) and her superintendent in Delhi Police Kalpana (Batra), who deal with crimes against women in the city. It was superbly written directed and performed.
