Sunny Kaushal on CAA protest affecting Bhangra Paa Le: It’s heartbreaking that the same people, who share the same land, fight like this [Exclusive]
Given the sensitive time in the country, with CAA protests and those in favor of the new amendment act both being the only topic on everyone's tongue, so much so that violence, property damage and loss of life has unfortunately reared its ugly head in several parts of the country, film collections have also been affected as evidenced with the recent December releases, Dabangg 3 and Good Newwz. However, our film-stars, too, have their priorities right with both Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha agreeing that the box-office numbers of their film rightfully take a back seat compared to what's going on in the nation.
With big films being hit, the fate of smaller films is a more worrying concern. So, we decided to pose the question to the stars of one of the most vibrant-looking small-budget films that's also one of three Bollywood films to begin 2020. We're talking about Bhangra Paa Le, which will be releasing on 3rd January 2020.

The lead actors of the film, Sunny Kaushal and Rukshar Dhillon, recently sat down for an exclusive interview with BollywoodLife, where they discussed a range of topics from their roles, the prep for the film, their past and future projects and, inevitably, the conversation steered toward the CAA protests, their thoughts on the volatile scenario in the country and how they see their film's release at a time like this. Check out what each of them had to say:
Sunny Kaushal: "You know what, I'm not trying to be politically correct about it, but frankly, I don't know much about the CAA and NRC, I've not read exactly what they are, so to comment on them right now would be really wrong, whether to take this side or that based on whatever's going on. That being said, it's very heartbreaking to see whatever's going on, it's very heartbreaking to see your country fight like this. The same people, who share the same land, fight like this over something that's very heartbreaking. It's immaterial which side you choose or what you protest against or for, but what really isn't right is just the fight that's going on. What matters right now is that we shouldn't be put in a position or put ourselves in a position where we are force ourselves to do such things. See, nobody wants to go out on the roads and fight. If given a choice, people would rather chill, just stay with love and be calm. So, I don't think we should do this to ourselves or anybody else that we are put in such a position."
Rukshar Dhillon: "I think it's like what he said. I think it's very unfortunate to know this is happening. We all can just hope that it gets to a level where everything settles as soon as it can because why would anyone want an unhealthy environment around them. Obviously, whenever you think of your day, you generally want everything to be smooth. And it's not because we aren't exposed to it, everything is going along nicely in our lives. We, too, get affected because it's happening in our country and so many people are bearing the brunt of it. I just hope that everything settles as fast as they can and we get back to living the way we were, with peace and harmony."
Well, with Bhangra Paa Le looking like a fun, festive film, it could at least provide an anecdote, however miniscule, for the simmering tension in the country, something which the actors concurred with, too.
"That's always what we strive for. As people in the performing arts, as people who make motion pictures, you give something to the society that could possibly settle things a bit," said Sunny, to which Rukshar added, "Honestly, it (a film) can't take away from the fact that and it shouldn't (Sunny echoed his accordance to this through, too), but our way is just to you know in that one moment to probably make them smile and just spread happiness, and that's what we're trying to do."

So, there you have it from the horses' mouths. While Bhangra Paa Le can in no way shift focus from the extremely sensitive situation in the country right now, it could at least provide a few moments of respite.
