'I obeyed,' On his 47th marriage anniversary Amitabh Bachchan reveals how his dad's command made him tie the knot with Jaya Bachchan overnight

Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan complete 47 years to togetherness today. The megastar of India got married to her after the success of Zanjeer in 1973. Amitabh Bachchan shared pictures from his marriage on social media and wrote a caption, "47 years .. today .. June 3, 1973 .. !! Had decided if Zanjeer would succeed, we would along with a few friends go to London for the first time .. My Father asked who you going with ? When I told him who , he said you must marry her before you go .. else you don't go .. So .. I obeyed .. !! Anniversary wishes are pouring in from fans. The stalwart is staying indoors as advised by his medical team. In this period, he has been digging out priceless old pictures that are a treat for the fans.

It seems Amitabh Bachchan had a liking for Jaya Bachchan even before they worked together on Guddi (1971). It seems he saw her on a magazine cover and fell for her. On reading the contents of her interview, he understood that she had a progressive outlook combined with traditional values. They had bumped into each other in FTII, Pune but none of them remembered much of that meeting. They worked together in BR Ishara's Ek Nazar where she fell for him first. However, no one really thought that they were in love.

Post the success of Zanjeer (1973), Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan and their friends made a plan for a foreign trip. It was a blockbuster and they booked all the tickets. However, his father late poet Harivanshrai Bachchan told his son that he should marry Jaya Bachchan first and then travel abroad with her. The two had discussed marriage in the course of their relationship.

The marriage took place at her place in Malabar Hill. Her friends oversaw the ceremonies. He was living in Mangal in Juhu's JVPD Scheme. His driver took him in the car. Within a few hours, they became man and wife.
