Sonakshi Sinha, Neha Kakkar: 6 celebs who quit social media due to its growing TOXICITY

It's been more than a week since Sushant Singh Rajput passed away. He was just 34. Since the day of his demise, social media is has turned into a virtual court. There have been accusations and theories of all kinds surrounding his death. There are talks of how nepotism and groupism in the industry led to his demise. Many people have already been declared guilty on social media. Cases have been registered against Salman Khan, Karan Johar, Ekta Kapoor and Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Bihar. There's also a case against his rumoured girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty for abetting the suicide of Sushant. Amidst all these reports, social media platforms have become extremely toxic. Not to forget the incessant trolling that happens. All these reasons have prompted many celebs to either quit social media or take a break. Here's a look at a few of them:

Sonakshi Sinha

The Lootera actress decided to deactivate her Twitter account. "The first step to protecting your sanity is to stay away from negativity. And no where more of that than twitter these days! Chalo, I'm off - deactivating my account. Bye guys, peace out," read her last tweet. However, the actress is on Instagram. She shared the screenshot of that tweet on Instagram and captioned it, "Aag lage basti mein... mein apni masti mein! Bye Twitter." A caption of her Instagram video read, "Some people are celebrating like they won something... im happy for you, tumhe laga raha hai na... lagne do, kisi ko koi farak nahi padh raha. But lets face it, ive cut the direct source of insult and abuse in my life. Ive taken away YOUR power to be able to say whatever it is that you want to me, my family and my friends. Ive taken away that access you had to me, that i had given you so trustingly. So theres only one winner here. Me."

Neha Kakkar

The singer has decided to take a temporary detox from social media. The last post on her official Instagram handle reads: "Going back to sleep! Plz wake me up when there's a better world. The world where there's freedom, love, respect, care, fun, acceptance, good people. Not hatred, nepotism, jealousy, bossy people, hitlers, murders, suicides, bad people. Good night! Don't worry I'm not dying. Lol! Just going away for a couple of days Neha Kakkar." She added, "I'm sorry if this makes anybody feel bad! But this is what I have been feeling since a long long time but not able to say it, just trying my best to be happy but not really happening. I'm a human being and that too a very emotional one. So.. Yeh Sab.. It hurts me.. Don't worry I'm okay.. Love you guys. Specially My #NeHearts."

Saqib Saleem

The Race 3 actor decided to 'break-up' from Twitter. He wrote, "I am Breaking Up with you Twitter." He added, "Hey Twitter, when we met for the first time, you were a lovely. A great platform to express feelings, gather knowledge and understand many different points of view. But, of late you seem to have gotten lost in all the hate everyone is so ready to throw at each other, a place of bullies, a place where abusing people is a normal code of conduct."

Aayush Sharma

Salman Khan's brother-in-law and actor Aayush Sharma, who debuted with Warina Hussain with Loveyatri has deleted his Twitter account. He posted a screenshot on Instagram which read, "280 characters are less to define a human being. But 280 characters are more than enough to spread fake news, hatred and negativity. Didn't sign up for this nasty herd mentality. Khuda hafiz."

Zaheer Iqbal

The actor, who made his debut with Notebook, also quit Twitter. 'Goodbye twitter' read his screenshot.

Shashank Khaitan

Filmmaker Shashank Khaitan, who generally seems to be a happy-go-lucky person, deactivated Twitter. "Done with twitter just a breeding ground for hate and negativity very sad that a platform so powerful, could not be used to create a better world praying for peace and love always deactivating my account now," he wrote before deactivating.

Apart from the above names, Karan Johar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ananya Panday, Suhana Khan and Alia Bhatt have all limited their comments on Instagram. This means that only people whom they follow can comment.
