WTF Wednesday: Hindustani Bhau's police complaint and netizens alleging that Ekta Kapoor has insulted the Army is a new level of jingoism
Bigg Boss 13 contestant, YouTuber and the last guardian of our country's sovereignty (at least in his mind), Hindustani Bhau, recently filed a police complaint against Ekta Kapoor, alleging that her AltBalajj web series, XXX, has brought disrepute to the Indian army and is disrespecting the sacrifice of our jawans. So convinced he was in the moral righteousness of his ways and staunch belief that he was safeguarding the honour of our army personnel that he even dragged Ekta's poor, old mother, Shobha Kapoor, into the complaint.
His exact words in the video that he later posted on YouTube were: "As I told you , I will file a complaint against a famous Bollywood celebrity who is defaming the country. So, here I am at the police station, and the famous personality I have filed a complaint against is Ekta Kapoor, and her mother, Shobha Kapoor. In the web series, they have shown that when a military officer is away, his wife calls her boyfriend home and has sex with him by making him wear the military uniform, and then tearing it. This is defamatory to all our jawans. Keep supporting me, and I will weed out all such traitors form out country."
Posting the video on his official Instagram handle, Hindustani Bhau captioned it: "Police complaint filed in the Khar Police Station against Ekta Kapoor. Police Complaint filed today by me against anti national people Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor for disrespecting our indian military, national emblem, colonel tag and defaming our country." Check it out below:
This wouldn't even have been worth mentioning, had the usual trend of such randomly incensed elements demanding support, and inevitably receiving it in droves, not followed suit. On cue, #ALTBalajiInsultsArmy soon became the top trend on Twitter, with several netizens coming out in full support of the social-media influencer and venting their ire against Ekta Kapoor and AltBalaji, with many calling for a ban on the web series, XXX. Check out some of the toxic, and frankly, clueless tweets below:
Producing vulgar series is nothing new for @altbalaji but, this time, it has overstepped the mark, the way they have insulted the Indian Army in such an offensive manner. Now, let's raise voice to boycott this crass series.#ALTBalaji_Insults_Army#boycott_XXX2

We have failed to understand that, the producers had a lot of other things to make the film, but it has been made with the help of some anti-national elements to spoil it.
Why so?
Shame @ektarkapoor

Another Code M series by @altbalaji shows the Indian Army in poor light. The Army is shown to be indulging in nepotism, castism, corruption, fake encounters targeting a particular community. Every episode maligns the institution of the Armed Forces.#ALTBalaji_Insults_Army

Honestly, why is Twitter going nuts for nothing? And, yes, this is absolutely nothing...a big, fat zero, nada, zilch. Rather than giving their irrationality any more footage, let's break it down by asking a few rational and factual questions:
a.) Haven't Hollywood and European movies repeatedly depicted army, navy, air force and police uniforms in lascivious moments, used solely for titillating effect? Why does nobody get offended there? Doesn't the indigenous populace of those countries love their armed forces just as much?
b.) Is it because the general population in those parts is more matured to separate entertainment from actual disrespect? Is their patriotic pride actually stronger than ours, not to be shaken by a fleeting moment in some random show, which exists for the sole purpose of either fulfilling the dirty fantasies of many or parading forbidden fruit to some?
c.) Who's to judge if a wife, alone at home, away from her husband for months on end, seeks love or indulges her desires elsewhere, and probably, uses the uniform to compensate for the absence of her actual husband? Who's to decided the chaos unfolding in her mind? And is she automatically expected to sign up for the same sacrifice her husband is enduring? These aren't excuses but actual psychology psychology, which we're willing to bet bottom dollar on that these bleeding nationalistic hearts haven't ever hear of, nor would ever care to educate themselves with even if the pride of the very country they're fighting to protect depended on it.
d.) The most important question of all: Has any real army person been offended or objected to the depiction of the uniform on the show? Again, we're willing to bet that they couldn't be bothered as their "true patriotism" is too secure to be affected by a show about sex.
e.) The second most important question of all: Who appointed Hindustani Bhau the torchbearer of our nation's morality and patriotic dignity and who in their right mind ever would?
f.) The final question: Does this latest outburst by the likes of Bhai and his so-called supporters hark back to India's perceived and perennial taboos about "sex", where any and everything thing associated with the act is automatically considered "sordid" and meant with a suspicious eye?
Tomorrow, if the Indian Army itself objects to the scene in question, then by all means Ekta Kapoor ought to scrap the episode and perhaps even apologise for hurting the sentiments of the very people because of whom we sleep soundly and breathe freely. Till then, let's stop making India a laughing stock on the world stage by perpetually confusing jingoism for patriotism.
