Filmy Friday: Shakuntala Devi, Lootcase, Yaara, Raat Akeli Hai: Which movie you are planning to watch this weekend?

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, we have seen many Bollywood and regional films taking the digital route and directly releasing on OTT platforms. While films like Gulabo Sitabo, Penguin and Dil Bechara have already garnered decent to great numbers of viewership on the web, this weekend not one or two, but four films are releasing on OTT platforms Shakuntala Devi, Lootcase, Yaara and Raat Akeli Hai. While the concept and theme of these ventures are very different from each other, we can't deny that it looks more of a clash between four Bollywood movies on different streaming services. Due to different genres and promising concepts, all four films could prove to be treat for movie-buffs, but we would like to know from you, which one is your choice for the weekend.

Shakuntala Devi - Amazon Prime Video

Vidya Balan starrer Shakuntala Devi is based on the life of math genius, Shakuntala Devi, who was bestowed the moniker of 'Human Computer'. Directed by Anu Menon, the film also features Jisshu Sengupta, Sanya Malhotra and Amit Sadh in pivotal roles. It is produced under the banners of Sony Pictures Networks India and Abundantia Entertainment. It releases today on Amazon Prime Video

Lootcase -Disney Hotstar

The comic caper, which stars Kunal Kemmu, Vijay Raaz, Ranvir Shorey, Gajraj Rao and Rasika Dugal in pivotal roles, has also premiered today. The promo has garnered positive reviews and we hope it will bring some comic relief during this tough coronavirus-induced phase. Directed by Rajesh Krishnan, Lootcase is a Fox Star production.

Yaara - Zee 5

Tigmanshu Dhulia directorial Yaara, which features Vidyut Jammwal, Shruti Haasan, Amit Sadh, Vijay Varma and Kenny Basumatary in key roles, released yesterday on Zee 5. The crime-drama, which is the remake of French film, A Gang Story.

Raat Akeli Hai - Netflix

Honey Trehan's Raat Akeli Hai stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte, Shweta Tripathi, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Shivani Raghuvanshi, Nishant Dahiya, Ila Arun, Swanand Kirkire and Aditya Srivastava in prominent roles. The trailer of the film received a huge thumbs-up from fans for its intriguing narrative, though some saw striking similarities with Daniel Craig and Chris Evans' smash hit Oscar nominee, Knives Out, which has released last year. We hope it will be a treat for all lovers of thrillers.
