Blade Runner 2049 makers rope in Ashutosh Gowarikar for an international music series

The entertainment news coming out during this pandemic has been mostly gloomy. But here is some good news that will make you smile. It seems filmmaker Ashutosh Gowarikar who has delivered hits like Lagaan and Jodhaa Akbar has been roped in by the Hollywood studio, Alcon Entertainment. They have bankrolled blockbusters like Blade Runner 2049 (2017), The Blind Side (2009) and PS I Love You (2007) in the past. They have got him on board to helm a musical series, which will be his international debut. This was reported by a leading tabloid.

A source close to Ashutosh Gowarikar told MiD Day, "After watching his Oscar-nominated film Lagaan and the majestic Jodhaa Akbar, the top brass at the studio felt he had the sensibilities to helm the big-budget musical drama. The deal was recently sealed. Gowariker and his team are fine-tuning the story that will be shot across India and the US. Due to the crisis, the recce is on hold. The team, however, has begun casting and will lock the leads in the coming months."

The studio has worked with top Hollywood actors like Hugh Jackman, Sandra Bullock and Johnny Depp in the past. They are in talks with some top actors for this project. Surely, Indian talent is going places in Hollywood. Ashutosh Gowarikar is known for his big budget historicals in India. His last film, Panipat (2019) was a dud at the box office. Of late, Indian talent is making waves abroad. We have seen how Christopher Nolan has gushed over Dimple Kapadia's work in his Robert Pattinson movie, Tenent. Priyanka Chopra is joining Keanu Reeves in the Matrix 4. The film will come out in 2022. Everyone was ecstatic at the news of Priyanka Chopra joining the big league in Hollywood. Shekhar Kapur is already a known name with his work in Elizabeth. India is truly shining at the global stage.
