Disha Salian Death: Did Mumbai Police miss out on strong scientific forensic evidence, this is what a tabloid report says
The demise of Sushant Singh Rajput sparked off the demand for a CBI Enquiry from fans. His death also threw focus on the circumstances in which his manager, Disha Salian, 28 died four days ago. Yesterday, the Maharashtra Police, which faced flak from the Supreme Court asked the public to come forward with evidences in the matter. Now, MiD-Day has reported that the autopsy of Disha was allegedly done in a very haphazard manner. It could mean loss of crucial forensic evidence, just like it happened in the case of Sushant Singh Rajput, as reported by the paper earlier. Disha Salian was believed to have jumped off the 14th floor of a high-rise in Malad (W). While some said it was suicide, others said she fell off from the window as she was too drunk.
Now, the tabloid has found out crucial evidences might have been missed by the forensic surgeon and police as they handled the Disha Salian case. It seems the autopsy happened after a couple of days and no there was no recording of the post-mortem. The cops allegedly did not preserve nail clippings and no forensic surgeon even visited the crime scene. This is not all. As per information sourced by the paper, the clothes worn by Disha Salian on that fateful night were not sent for examination. A detailed procedure could have ruled out assault or blood stains of someone else.
Sources told Mid-Day, "The only sample that was collected and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory, Kalina was viscera for chemical analysis to rule out any intoxication or drugs. Swabs were sent for ruling out sexual assault. The police have also sent Disha's mobile phone to retrieve data." This has been confirmed to the paper by senior forensic scientists attached to FSL, Kalina. They said, "We received only viscera and swabs, other than a mobile phone for cyber forensic analysis, four days after (July 15) the post-mortem was done."
Nobody was called to study the crime scene. It seems the the cops have now written to them to quickly make the documents. The body has been cremated and there is no crucial forensic or photographic evidence in hand. All of that, could have helped in a second opinion to rule out foul play. A COVID-19 test was done on Disha Salian, post which it was sent to the post-mortem centre. It was termed as an unnatural death due to head and multiple injuries. The centre comes under police surgeon Dr SM Patil, who is the medico-legal advisor for the state of Maharashtra. He told the paper that PPE kits were provided in all post-mortem centres. He said, "Moreover, even WHO and ICMR have clearly stated that an infection from a deceased due to COVID-19 is not a high-risk. Autopsy should have been done the same day, had the police brought the body to the pm centre."
Dr Dhere further said, "Emphasis should be given to crime scene investigation, especially in case of fall from height, it would help to ascertain the circumstances and help the forensic surgeon in analysing the place from where the deceased is believed to have leaped or otherwise."
Dr Rukmini Krishnamurthy, former director of the State FSL, Kalina said, "A death due to fall can be natural fall or an intentional push, the forensic experts can throw light on this point by examining whether the body is lying ace down or head down, the type of injuries if any during a struggle while pushing. The distance of the fall from the parapet throws light on the type of fall. Likewise, there may be lot of other clues at the crime scene which can give a breakthrough for the investigation." Well, the interest around Sushant Singh Rajput's death is bringing new facets to light, on a daily basis.
