Mr. India Trilogy: 'How can your claim be more than mine?' Javed Akhtar questions Shekhar Kapur

The reboot of of Mr. India was announced recently. Ali Abbas Zafar recently had announced that he is collaborating with Zee Studios for the reboot franchise of Mr. India, which will be a trilogy. This did not go well with Sonam Kapoor and others who had been a part of the original film. Sonam Kapoor expressed her disappointment on social media of makers didn't even have a word with his father as she and Anil Kapoor didn't had any idea about this trilogy. Even the original director Shekhar Kapur expressed his displeasure over the project. Mr. India was written by Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar and it featured Anil Kapoor as Mr India and late Sridevi as a journalist, and veteran actor Amrish Puri playing the iconic villain Mogambo.

Shekhar Kapur again went on to criticise the reboot of the film and wrote on Twitter. He said that how can a director's creative rights over his film be overlooked. He wrote," The argument on a remake of #MrIndia is not that no one took permission from me or even bothered to tell me. The question is. If you are remaking a feature film, based on a director's very successful work, does the director have no creative rights over what he/she created?"

Javed Akhtar replied to this tweet by Shekhar Kapur and expressed his disappointment. He wrote, "Shekhar saheb the story the situations the scenes the characters the dialogue the lyrics even the title none of these were yours .I gave it all to you . Yes you execute it very well but how can your claim on the film be more than mine . It wasn't you idea . It wasn't your dream."
