Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan box office day 1 early estimates: Ayushmann Khurrana's film is off to a flying start

The sequel to Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, hit the silver screens yesterday. Featuring Jitendra Kumar, Ayushmann Khurrana, Neena Gupta and Maanvi Gugroo, the film clashed with Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar's horror flick, Bhoot: The Haunted Ship. As compared to Vicky's film, Ayushmann's same-sex drama has fared well at the box office. It is off to a flying start. According to the early estimates, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan has earned somewhere between Rs. 9.25- 9.50 crore. This could become Ayushmann's highest opener, depending on the final box office numbers. As of now, the film is doing well at the ticket windows.

Our critic gave 2.5 to Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and in his review, he wrote, "Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan boasts a fine ensemble performance, with Ayushmann Khurrana once again in form, ably supported by Neena Gupta as Aman's mother, tron between her son's love and years of conditioning. The supporting players like Manurishi Chaddha and Maanvi Gagroo also get ample scope to shine, and use it to good effect. It's Gajraj Rao though who walks away with not only the meatiest role in the film (you could even say that he's the lead hero here), but also sinks his teeth deep enough into the part to walk away with another brilliant act in what is turning out to be a wonderful second coming for an extremely talented actor."

Confessing that he was borderline homophobic, Ayushmann Khurrana exclusively told us, "I was probably borderline homophobic. But I saw the transition in my thought process over the years when I came to Delhi and Bombay, and met people from the community. I became more sensitised. Then I realised that was such a fool back in the day. I thought that the transition I went through, any average Indian homophobe can go through as well. If we manage to do that in our film, it will be a huge victory."
